Please Donate to the International Hiphop Revival: Reclaiming the Narrative Redefining our Future
This event is aimed at taking place in Cape Town, South Africa in October 2024. It will serve as an international exchange for Hiphop artists, scholars, and practitioners serious about healing and social justice. The event will include a series of talks at Universities by some of the top scholars and practitioners of Hiphop as a movement for healing and social change. Participants will have an opportunity to attend a series of workshops that will allow them to achieve a creative wellbeing certificate. Workshops will be aimed around not only legitimizing hiphop as a healing modality theoretically, but provide practical examples, and research to support this work. Workshops will be aimed at preserving the culture through museums, showing participants how to create culturally sustaining social and emotional curriculum, developing creative wellbeing centers, and how to develop an evidence basis so that sustained funding can be achieved for these organizations. Further, there will be a series of masterclasses and exhibitions facilitated by master class teachers with students in Cape Town in a variety of schools.
Concerts will also take place in historic places like museums, parks, and governmental organizations like Parliament. One mechanism of these events will be to help Heal the Hood (South Africa) fundraise for their Creative Wellbeing Center in the Cape Flats. Following, international Hiphop leaders will meet with First Nation Leaders locally and will undergo a series of ceremonies and hikes to further exchange the realities and possibilities of a hiphop and Indigenous healing movement. This entire event will be professionally video recorded and will become a documentary that will be distributed in the United States and Africa. The baton for this event will be passed to the next country at the culmination of the event and the movement will continue to grow and expand to another nation the following year.
